Chicago's annual Bud Billiken Parade has long become known as the official Back To School event in the African American community. This years parade will feature a special presentation of Foot Locker gift certificates and bookbags packed with school supplies to 25,000 high school and grammer school in attendance. In exchange for a hand written "school year goals" essay turned in the by first 25,000 attendants, representatives of the Bridget Boyd Foundation will present each person with a gift certificate to Foot Locker and a bookbag filled with school supplies. "The parade (Bud Billiken) is the official back to school event for Chicago's inner city kids and what better way to add to the excitement of going back to school, then to start the year off with a fresh pair of kicks and free school supplies." Said Bridget Boyd, founder of The Bridget Boyd Foundation. "The kids will turn in an essay describing the goals they have set for the school year and how they plan to achive them, this will give them something to focus on and at the end of the school year, those that have completed that goal will receive a special certificate of excellence from my foundation."
